Design & Features

  • Handling and Controls

The Canon VIXIA HF G60 4K UHD video camera does not cover lots of manual buttons, like older video camera models. The camcorder moved many of those buttons to the touch screen, presented them together under your fingertips, which is far more intuitive; Right?

There are also some manual dial rings, function buttons on the camera body that lets you adjust the camera settings and creative settings in no time. You will also get a pre-record button, an infrared button, and a battery information button.

The camera is pretty light in weight; so, you will never have fatigue while carrying the camera even for quite long hours. It is made of durable and lightweight plastic material, that provides comfortable grip and image stabilization options; plus, you can mount it on a stable tripod to prevent accidental drops.

  • Display Screen and Viewfinder

This camcorder has a viewfinder (tilting 0.24” electronic eyepiece) and rotatable 3” LCD screen to offer great flexibility and accuracy in framing the next shot. The LCD has 460,000 dots resolution, and the EVF has a 1,560,000 dots resolution screen that genuinely provides a fairly bright view. The touch-friendly setting options on the LCD display help the users configure the shots, cinematic compositions, and camera settings.

  • Lens and Image Stabilization Mechanism

The Genuine Canon 15X optical zoom lens maintains 4K resolution and the highest clarity throughout the entire magnification range. It offers a 35mm super lens equivalent 25.5 to 382.5mm focal length range and f/2.8 to 4.5 aperture range. When comparing other optical zoom camcorders, the zoom range here is not that wide. However, there is no compromise made on the image and video clarity.

Moving on, the circular 9-bladed IRIS diaphragm provides good bokeh quality, sharpness, and shallow depth-of-field. It uses a 5-axis optical image stabilization mechanism to eliminate camera shakes from 5 different angles and ensure stable footage on the go.

  • Image Sensor and Image Processor

The 1-inch type CMOS sensor is known for impressive low-light performance, reduced artifacts, and high-speed image readout. And, the DIGIC DV 6 image processor reduces noise, improves picture quality and the speed of imagery. It enables dual pixel CMOS auto-finder function for fast and accurate automated focusing. The advanced image processor also improves power consumption and enhances recording times.

Image and video quality

  • Resolution and Format

The VIXIA HF G60 uses MPEG4 H.264 / AVC codec format recording and offers 60p, 30p, and 24p recording modes; up to 30 fps for 4K ultra HD video, 60 fps for 1080P FHD and 720P HD video. It supports impressive 0.4X slow and 1200X fast motion recording in HD quality video at a 60 fps rate.

The H.264 encoding format is best for 4K resolution video; it maintains the same quality but reduces the file size to meet the storage demand.

  • Imaging

The Canon VIXIA HF G60 camcorder captures natural-looking shots with every detail and accurate color recreation. The wide dynamic range gamma offers a range of color tones and different shades.

STORAGE

  • BATTERY LIFE

If you continuously record 4K 30P video using the LCD, the included BP-820/BP-828 lithium-ion battery provides approximately 150 min to 230 min operation time.

  • DUAL MEDIA SLOTS

The Canon VIXIA HF G60 camcorder incorporates two SDHC and SDXC memory card compatible media slots with up to 2TB memory capacity. Both media slots provide speedy writing and rendering performance for MP4 videos and JPEG stills.

Connectivity and Compatibility

The camcorder features a LANC terminal and a 3.5 mm port to take inputs from LANC remote controller and external microphones. It provides 4:2:2 colored video output on video devices through a 2.0 mini Type-C HDMI or Type-B USB port; plus, the 2-channel 16.0-Bit AAC-LC audio output on headphones via 3.5 mm headphone jack port.

You can attach flashlights, or cold shoe mounted other external accessories according to your shooting needs.

BEST FEATURES OF CANON HF G60 CAMCORDER

First and foremost, I’ll highlight the Vixia HF G60 for its stunning low-light performance. The 1” large-format image sensor effectively deals with low-light circumstances, captures possibly more light; and, ends up with much less noise and satisfying clarity, even in the lowest lighting conditions and at the highest magnification point.

Alongside the low-light performance, the wedding videographers or live event shooters prefer this camcorder for the genuine Canon lens, which has an extensive aperture range, focal length, and circular 9 bladed diaphragms.

The highly precise dual pixel CMOS autofocusing system also demands appreciation. The compact design, lightweight, touch-AF, and dedicated 5-axis image stabilization mechanism come in handy for run-and-gun shooters.

CANON VIXIA HF G60 ACCESSORIES

Remote controller

The included remote provides basic control options for start/stop recording, zoom, focus, and something more. But, it would be better; if you use a versatile remote controller like Wired LANC RC; that offers full access to all important user functions. Such a functional remote controller device lets you control all creative and composition aspects, including camera settings from more distance.

GPS Receiver

A compatible GPS Receiver such as GP-E2 is genuinely helpful for newsgathering; it records location and tags the picture with geolocation.

Conclusion

If you look for a camcorder to shoot home videos, you can look into the impressive array of the less-priced HD camcorder models. But, if the 4K filming with stunning image quality is your priority, nothing will perform better than the Canon VIXIA HF G60 camcorder.

All parts of this camcorder are designed for professional film or documentary making, newsgathering, or filming live events from the camera lens to the sensor behind the lens. It may take time to get used to the pro-level features, but it will be worth buying, for sure.
